The Nalgonda Court is gaining attention for its strict rulings that act as a deterrent to offenders. Its latest judgement sentenced Mohammad Qayoom to 51 years of imprisonment.
Qayoom was convicted for sexually assaulting a minor girl studying in 10th class at Thipparthy, Nalgonda district, in 2021. He first harassed her in the name of love and later raped her.
Based on scientific evidence, the Court gave him 20 years under the POCSO Act, 20 years for sexual assault, 10 years for assaulting a SC, ST minor, and 1 year for threats.
He was also fined Rs 85,000, while the victim was awarded Rs 7 lakh compensation. In the past, the Nalgonda Court sentenced a man to death in another case where a minor was raped and murdered.
Justice Rojaramani, who delivered this verdict, has given rulings in 11 such cases, punishing offenders according to the severity of their crimes.
