Nandigam Suresh hails from the Amaravati region. He was accused of burning fields in the capital region to throw the blame on the then Chandrababu Naidu Government. There were allegations that Suresh burnt the fields and wanted to accuse the then Government of doing that to blackmail farmers to give lands to the capitals.
Back then, he was arrested in the case. YSR Congress tried to make him an icon of the anti-Amaravati movement. Saying that he is a poor Dalit, Jagan gave him the Bapatla MP ticket.
Suresh surprisingly won and became an MP in Jagan’s wave.
After becoming the MP, the poor Dalit MP was in the news for all kinds of wrong reasons with his highheadedness.
Jagan gave him a ticket once again and is hoping that caste equations will work.
There is a significant Mala voting in Bapatla, Chirala, and Parchur segments. Suresh is expecting they will overwhelmingly vote for him. Also, he is hoping that he will make a split in TDP’s Madiga voting. He is also expecting the support of the poor due to the Krishna River Metta area land issue and the welfare schemes.
But the ground reality is different. Out of the seven Assembly constituencies of the Bapatla Parliament, TDP has strong candidates in six segments and YSR Congress is leading only in a single seat i.e., Bapatla.
All the YSR Congress candidates in Vemuru, Repalle, Parchur, Addanki, Chirala, and Santhanuthalapadu are on a sticky wicket and that will trouble Nandigam Suresh big time.
TDP had fielded Telangana BJP leader T Krishna Prasad as its candidate in Bapatla. He is likely to get lucky there thanks to the strong candidates of the TDP in the Assembly segments.
