Why Is Nara Lokesh After Karnataka?

Minister Nara Lokesh appears determined to build an aerospace ecosystem in Anantapur. Recently, he reached out to a company frustrated with Bengaluru’s traffic problems, sparking criticism from Karnataka Congress leaders. Yet, he stayed firm and continued pitching Andhra Pradesh as a better option.

At one point, Lokesh seemed ready to risk tensions with the Karnataka government to secure investments for Andhra Pradesh. When a journalist shared a list of companies moving to North Karnataka, Lokesh responded that “slightly more north is Anantapur,” where a world-class aerospace hub is taking shape.

His aggressive approach is drawing attention. By keeping Andhra Pradesh in conversations within Bengaluru’s investment circles, Lokesh ensures the state remains a visible option for industries. The more the media and Karnataka politicians discuss him, the more Andhra Pradesh stays relevant in business talks.

Targeting Congress also helps Lokesh strengthen ties with the NDA. TDP’s brief alliance with Congress in 2018 created trust issues with the BJP. Despite being allies today, doubts linger, and Lokesh’s stance reassures the Centre of TDP’s commitment to development.

This competition between states benefits the country. Strong proactiveness forces weaker governments to improve through peer pressure. Lokesh’s push may not only boost Andhra Pradesh’s prospects but also press Karnataka’s government to perform better for its own investors.
