Coming to Andhra Pradesh politics, the women’s reservation bill could bring big changes in the candidates’ selection. As many as 58 MLA seats in AP could be reserved for women once the bill comes into effect.
If the trend is such that the constituencies where female voters outnumber men voters will have female MLA candidates, as per the reservation bill, then things could get interesting.
In the top 58 MLA constituencies with a majority of female voters, Mangalagiri, Gajuwaka, and Bhimavaram are on the list.
In this case, Nara Lokesh might have to leave Mangalagiri and Pawan will have to leave both Gajuwaka and Bhimavaram and go for a change of constituencies. Other key segments like Gannavaram, Kurnool, Vijayawada Central, Kadapa, and Tadipatri could also have female candidates.
But this isn’t an immediate problem for Lokesh and Pawan Kalyan as the women’s reservation bill is likely to come to effect only after the delimitation in 2027, meaning it will be enforced in the 2029 elections.
