Modi to Execute Naidu’s Failed Promise?

Pension to unemployed Youth may be the only pending promise of Chandrababu Naidu in terms of welfare schemes. The idea will have huge financial implications and the state which is reeling under severe financial stress could not afford it as of now.

But then a similar pension is being planned at the National level. Buzz is that Modi government is planning to give 5000 Annual Pension to unemployed youth from poor financial background. If this is implemented, it will be the biggest populist scheme rolled out by Modi government till date.

The government will use the money saved from Demonetization for this purpose. But then Demonetization gains are one time affair and this scheme may lead to more financial issues in the longterm. Similar scheme is already in place in states like Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, and others.
