Modi to Have an Unexpected Opponent in 2019?

Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh had split into two after Mulayam Singh Yadav expelled his own son, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. It is most likely that Akhilesh will contest separately with his faction. Akhilesh has age, clean image, and public support on his side.

If he happens to win the upcoming election comfortably, he may be a strong contender at the national front as well for 2019 elections. There is no credible face in the opposition and that is coming back as an advantage to Narendra Modi.

Akhilesh can fill the void political observers opine if he wins the UP elections. But that is going to be extremely tough. A vast section of poll experts believes that the split in Samajwadi Party may benefit BJP. If the saffron party wins Uttar Pradesh, 2019 may be an easy election for Modi.
