No more ‘A’ services on internet?

Ministry of communications and IT decided to clean intervnet from obscene content. The Ministry had decided to slash the websites offering escort services. On Monday, the ministry instructed the Internet Service Providers (ISP) to block 240 websites allegedly offering escort services.

The Ministry asked all the ISPs to comply with the ban or face action under the Information Technology Rules, 2009. Several notable escort services websites like pinkysingh.com, jasmineescorts.com, onlyoneescorts.com, payalmalhotra.in, localescorts.in, pearlpatel.in, kavyajain.in, xmumbai.in, shimi.in and anchu.in were on the ban list.

Some of the ISPs have already complied with the government instructions while some are yet to. As a result, many of these websites are still accessible on some ISPs. The government is keen on maintaining a strict vigil on web and prone the websites cropping up. Last year government blocked 857 websites that had adult content. However after facing flak, the government had reviewed its order and lifted ban.
