No peace for the dead in Hyderabad!

There is no peace for the dead in Hyderabad as the most crematoriums and graveyards are reduced to garbage dumps and playing grounds for kids in neighbouring localities. The plight of the graves is disheartening for the the beloved ones for not being able to give a decent farewell.

Also the graveyards and crematoriums are becoming a biohazard as they are in the heart of the city and many are dangerously close to schools posing threat to children. People demand that they should be immediately modernized or shifted out of the city.

The GHMC made tall promises of immediate modernization of crematoriums and development of graveyards three months ago but the time was passed only in passing tenders but the works never began. It is said that 9.50 Crore is required for this purpose and with no GHMC panel in place, the approvals are not done. In the absence of the panel, authorities can only sanction projects only up to Rs 10 lakh unless government intervenes.
