
According to New York Times, the fire squad found the bodies of the couple in a basement flat on day one. On the following day, they found the body of their son. The couple’s friends and neighbors identified the couple as Nanda Balo Persaud and Bono Salima Sally Persaud. Their son was Devon Persaud.
The accident was named a five-alarm fire, and the fire spread due to strong wind to the neighboring houses, injuring 29 adults and 13 children from nine families. Even the firefighters were injured while putting out the fire.
As per the story in NYT, Nanda Balo retired from a company that made medicines while his wife Bono Salima was working at the JFK airport. According to Salima’s cousin Abid Ali, the couple came from a humble background and were loving and warm.
He also organized an online fundraiser for the family on Gofundme and raised $34.923 from 429 donations till the time this story was filed. The family hailed from Guyana, and the house was in Queens borough, where many families from Guyana had settled.
As of now, police say there was no foul game, and it was an accident.
