Odisha objects Polavaram Project

Disappointing news emerging from the national media that Odisha government had written a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi objecting the Polavaram Project. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik objected to the government going about the project with out taking the opinion of the people in submerging villages in Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

Patnaik also felt that Polavaram has no eligibility to be a National Project. He demanded that the design of the project should be changed immediately as it will displaces numerous tribals and cause loss to them. Polavaram Project which is called the life line of Andhra Pradesh.

Already the project works are happening at snail pace as the center is not providing funds to the expected levels. The center had only allotted 100 Crore to this 20000 Crore project in the last budget. It also failed reimburse the amount spent by the state government since the appointed day. At this juncture, Odisha’s objections are even more worrying.
