Parliament Elections to begin Mid-March

The Elections of Indian Parliament will take place in multiple phases, a minimum of five to maximum of seven phases. The elections will begin in Mid-March and will go on till May end. The new government will be formed by June 1st, 2014. This was revealed by Chief election commissioner VS Sampath at an event at the Brookings Institute, an American think-tank, hosted in association with the US India Business Council and Confederation of Indian Industry.

780 million people are expected to exercise their right to vote at over 800,000 polling booths, using over 1.18 million electronic voting machines to elect 543 members of 16th Lok Sabha. The tenure of current Lok Sabha expires on May 31st. So, new government should be formed by June 1st. India post independence never missed any deadline of General Election and the same is expected to happen once again.
