Modi Announces Deadline on Conversion for NRI’s

Narendra Modi announced a new deadline for the conversion of PIO cards to OCI. Modi had indicated in the past to convert all the PIO (Person of Indian Origin) cards to OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) cards without any charge i.e free of cost.

Though the conversion announcement was made, a clear deadline from when the charge would be applied for the conversion was not mentioned. Today at Pravasi Bharatiya Divas held in Bengaluru, PM have given a clarity on the deadline for PIO-OCI card conversion to be 30th June. Now NRI’s can apply for the conversion of cards till 30th June for free of cost.

OCI has got more benefits compared to PIO as OCI has a lifetime tenure and PIO is valid for 15 years. Modi appreciated the Pravasi for their contribution in their respective firms and stated that they have become the role models for other immigrants from other countries.
