Polavaram Problem Comes Back to Bite AP

Central Government seems to be changing its word once again on Polavaram Project. Earlier as the part of AP’s Special Package, it was said that Center will be funding the irrigation component of this project. Back then, the center said it would be funding according to 2014 April Estimates.

But then, the project cost escalated by about three times after that. Back then, the center used to tell that they did not get the revised estimates and will be funding the project according to them, once they got those. But then, in Parliament, the other day, Center clarified that it will fund the project only according to 2014 estimates.

In that case, Andhra Pradesh will have to raise the funding for the remaining 24000 Crore which is a humongous task for the cash-strapped state. In the whole process, BJP led central government actually changed the definition of National Project.
