PK Behaved Ethically, BJP Did Not

Former MLC Pothula Sunitha has officially joined the BJP today. She was welcomed by party national president JP Nadda with a scarf. Sunitha had resigned from her MLC post and the YSRCP a year ago, ending her previous political affiliations.

Sunitha began her political journey with the TDP and was first elected as an MLC in 2017. She contested from Chirala in 2019 but was denied a TDP ticket. Later, she resigned from TDP and joined YSRCP, where she was re-elected and made Women Wing President.

After a year, she resigned from YSRCP and the MLC post. Now she has joined the BJP, which is an ally of the Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh and at the national level. Many question what BJP gains from this joining.

Sunitha and her husband Suresh, both former Naxalites, owe their political start to the TDP. She openly criticised Chandrababu Naidu, Lokesh, and other leaders while leaving parties. Her loyalty to YSRCP was also short-lived, leaving within a year of losing power.

Earlier, Sunitha attempted to join Janasena but was rejected by Pawan Kalyan. This has led observers to highlight that Pawan Kalyan showed ethical restraint, while BJP’s acceptance of Sunitha raises questions about alliance confidence and party ethics.

If BJP nominates her to the council, it could create further controversy. Many believe such decisions could undermine trust among cadres and damage the credibility of the BJP-TDP alliance in Andhra Pradesh.
