Puzzle Time Begins for TDP yet Again!

Monsoon Session of Parliament begins today. KVP Ramachandra Rao’s Private Member Bill on Special Status of Andhra Pradesh is likely to come up for voting now. In the last session, BJP tactically ended the session before the bill came up for voting, hoping that it would deal with the bill in the next session.

TDP will have the dilemma between choosing the state interests or choosing the alliance partner. If TDP MPs do not vote for the bill, it will be used to corner the party in the state by the opposition and will also send wrong signals to the people. If they vote, it will further stain the relations with the Center.

Center is already being insensitive to the needs of the state. If this bill is passed, it will come as a major embarrassment for the center. If Modi and team looks it as cheating by the alliance partner, situations will further worsen and will make life difficult for the state which is reeling under severe financial trouble post the bifurcation.

Chandrababu Naidu, a wily politician is aware of the need for Center’s support for the state and is striking a balance with BJP. It will be a testing time for TDP in this session of Parliament. On the flip side, TDP Anantapur MP, JC Diwakar Reddy said the party will support the bill and there is no way going out of the way.
