Incidentally, a defamation case was then filed against Rahul Gandhi for defaming prime minister Modi.
The sessions court in Gujarat had issued 2 years jail sentence to Rahul Gandhi in this case. Subsequently, his parliamentary membership was also suspended.
Rahul then approached the Gujarat High Court, asking to the cancel the defamation case. But much to his shock, the high court upheld the judgement of the sessions court.
The high court commented that there are already 10 cases in Rahul Gandhi across India and the sessions court is right to impose a stern sentence against him in the defamation case. This would mean that the jail sentence would remain intact for Rahul. However, the sessions court had temporarily held up the jail sentence.
With Gujarat High Court upholding the lower court’s jail sentence, Rahul Gandhi is now expected to approach the Supreme Court.
