Rajampet: Three Groups Pulling Back YSR Congress

Rajampet of the erstwhile Kadapa district is a Congress and YSR Congress stronghold. In the nine elections that happened here after TDP’s inception, the cycle party won only four times.

In 2014, Meda Venkata Mallikarjuna Reddy won on TDP ticket. He defected to YSR Congress just before the 2019 elections and got re-elected on the YSR Congress ticket.

The current ZP Chairman, Akepati Amaranath Reddy won as an MLA from Congress in the 2009 elections. He later joined YSR Congress. Jagan rejected him ticket in 2019 and gave it to Meda.

Meda and Akepati groups are always at loggerheads since 2019. Akepati group is trying to corner Meda in various controversial land deals.

Akepati group is complaining about the same when and where possible. Meda is also lagging in the Gadapa Gadapaku program. This group politics made victory difficult for YSR Congress in local elections.

Akepati is serious about getting the ticket this time. Meanwhile, Rajampet MP Midhun Reddy’s relative, Galiveeti Madhanmohan Reddy is also expecting the ticket with the support of Peddireddy.

Madan Mohan Reddy is maintaining a group himself in the constituency.

The party cadre feels this group politics will endanger the party in 2024 if not addressed properly.
