Rayalaseema to Amaravati Highway, Turning A Reality

During the earlier term of TDP between 2009-2014, a plan was prepared for the Access Control Green Field Expressway between Amaravati and Anantapur. The Center had also allotted a highway number to it.

But the YSRCP government set aside the project completely. However, the Center came forward to complete the 398.8 km stretch highway 544D between Anantapur and Guntur as an alternative.

While 288.8 km stretch was 4 lane, the remaining 110 km was left as 2 lane. They cited some technical issues for it. However, if the Center completes the stretch, it would be a grand highway between Rayalaseema and Amaravati.

The Center developed 69 km stretch between Anantapur and Bugga as 4 lane. It developed 135 km stretch between Bugga and Giddaluru as 4 lane.

However, the 110 km stretch between Giddaluru and Vinukonda is 2 lane. Again, the stretch between Vinukonda-Guntur 84.8 km was developed as 4 lane.

It is for the state government to put pressure on the Center to develop the 2 lane stretch. If all 4 lanes are developed, it will mean a grand highway and increase in traffic between Rayalaseema and capital Amaravati.

On the other hand, the development of grand highway will also help increase the commute to Srisailam. If the 4 lane 544D is developed, it will also increase the number of devotees going to Srisailam.
