Receipt for every Police complaint!

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs have started efforts to make policing in the country citizen-friendly and transparent with a new e-governance project. The home ministry made some changes to the existing Crime and Criminal Tracking and Network Systems (CCTNS) to make sure that Police after registering a case or filing a petition will be required to issue a receipt to the complaining citizens.

Each receipt will have a unique number by which the progress of the case can be known. The receipt is also a kind of acknowledgement of the complaint. 62 police stations in Hyderabad Police Commissionerate jurisdiction have started this practice and very soon a link will enabled on Hyderabad Police website and the status of the complaint can be found out using the receipt number. There are several instances in the past, the police officers have been reluctant to accept or register some cases, the home ministry is sure that those cases will come down with this new system.
