Revanth Says Resolution, TG Says Andhra Control

Telangana CM Revanth Reddy posted on X saying Devadula sakshiga, he will opt for resolution rather than fighting over Krishna-Godavari waters. Both CMs have been maintaining a similar stand, though both are decided on what they want.

There is general consensus that the issue has to be resolved amicably. The Telangana CM said in his tweet that he would pick talks over public sparring. He said he was committed to giving drinking water to every citizen and Irrigation water to every acre of land in Telangana.

Recently, the CM visited Devadula project and said that while continuing the struggle to get equal share of waters, they would retort to peaceful means. The bone of contention between AP and Telangana is about the sharing of Krishna and Godavari waters. During bifurcation, Andhra Pradesh was allotted 512 TMC waters and Telangana was allotted 299 TMC of waters. Telangana has been fighting for equal share of waters since then. Meanwhile, a tribunal was appointed to look into the matter under Brujesh Kumar to resolve Krishna water distribution.

Telangana has been asking for allocation based on projects. There are also arguments regarding the Srisailam, Nagarjuna Sagar projects. The Centre intervened and put the matter under Krishna River Management Board (KRMB).

Similarly, coming to Godavari waters, Andhra Pradesh has a grouse that it is losing out on its share due to the Kaleswaram Project. On the other hand, Telangana has reservations regarding Polavaram project, its height and ‘”mumpu” area. To add to the already existing issues, AP government’s decision go ahead with Polavaram-Nallamala project has resulted in new tiff. Telangana government has already complained to Central government’s Jal Shakti.

Of course, both Chandrababu and Revanth Reddy want talks and no bad blood between the sister states. But people of Telangana feel slowly the Andhra Pradesh leaders are trying to dominate the political scene in Telangana.

Revanth Reddy coming from Chandrababu camp in the past and TDP and Jana Sena trying to contest in Telangana local polls has only accentuated anger among Telangana citizens.

Will peace prevail or will it lead to bigger crisis, time will decide. But both Telangana and Andhra citizens feel they are right.
