Revanth’s New Metro: LB Nagar To Airport

Following CM Revanth’s assumption of office, a comprehensive review led to several key decisions regarding the Metro. The Raya Durgam-Airport Corridor, proposed by the previous BRS government, has been directed to be set aside, making it seem as if the route no longer exists. The new government has issued orders to discard the routes proposed by its predecessor and formulate plans for new routes, with a significant focus on altering the Rayadurgam-Shamshabad Airport Corridor.

This shift has left real estate and industrial traders, who had invested in lands expecting the metro’s arrival, feeling completely drained. The inconsistency between government intentions and actions is causing concern among those who had planned based on the previous proposals. Officials have been instructed to conduct a survey for the metro route from Falaknuma and LB Nagar, departing from the Rayadurgam-Shamshabad corridor.

There are concerns among officials about changing the corridor while the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is being prepared and the tender (L-1) is in the selection process. In compliance with the CM’s directives, a new route has been chosen, and preparations are underway for a field-level survey from Falaknuma and LB Nagar, aiming to extend the metro train to the old city.

CM Revanth Reddy envisions that extending the metro from this route to the airport will foster development in the IT corridor, as well as the central and eastern areas of the city. The pending 5.5 km stretch from MGBS to Falaknuma is currently under consideration. A proposal has been introduced for a route from Falaknuma, via Chandrayanagutta, to Mailardevpally, Jalpally, and P-7 road to the airport (13 km).

The distance covered by the Falaknuma and LB Nagar corridors, as mentioned by CM Revanth Reddy, is half that of the Rayadurgam to Shamshabad corridor (31 km) proposed by the BRS government. This alteration is expected to significantly reduce the construction costs.
