Road block for Osmania demolition plan!

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s plan of shifting hospital out of Osmania is lauded, but demolishing the heritage structure is being opposed by civil society and historians. The hospital built in 1921 stands tall on the bank of river Musi as testimony of Hyderabad’s culture and heritage.

People are demanding steps to preserve the history instead of erasing it. Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (Intach), an organisation which is dedicated to preservation of heritage in the country conducted preliminary inspection and found that the structure is not dangerous.

They found that the damage is on account of poor maintenance and untimely upkeep of the monument. Noted author and historian William Dalrymple say OGH will be a goose that could lay golden eggs if it is restored and opened to tourists.
