Rules not allowing Professor’s statue

In an interesting turn of events, GHMC had refused permission to install the statue of Professor K Jayashankar, the ideologue of the Telangana movement. Representatives of TRTUC, Government Printing Press, asked for permission to install the statue at Chanchalguda crossroads.

But GHMC refused permission for it citing a Supreme Court order. Officials say the committee, headed by the collector and having officials of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), roads and buildings (R&B) department and traffic police turned down the request.

Interestingly, people who wants to put up the statues are finding a shortcut to bypass these rules. They are erecting the statues in nights and are raking up controversies when authorities try to pull them down. It happened recently at Vengal Rao Nagar, the busiest road near SR Nagar, where a full size Ambedkar statue was installed at night.
