Satyam Case: Rama Linga Raju gets 7 years jail

Nampally Special Court had awarded seven years of jail sentence to Satyam Rama Linga Raju in the multi-crore Satyam Computers account fraud. Since Raju had already spent 33 months in jail, he will have to complete the remaining term. Nine others involved in the case were also declared as guilty.

The nine others are – B. Rama Raju, Srinivas Vadlamani (former Chief Financial officer), S. Gopalakrishnan and Taluri Srinivas (partners Price Waterhouse), B. Suryanarayana Raju, Prabhakar Gupta (internal auditor), G. Ramakrishna (Head, Finance), D. Laxmipathy and Venkatpathi Raju. All of them also got seven years imprisonment.

Ramalingaraju and Rama Raju also had to pay 5 Crore each as penality. Remaining had to shell One Lakh each as penality. Since bail can not be granted in those sentences more than 3 years, they will be arrested but can appeal for bail in a higher court.
