Second female mayor to Hyderabad not easy?

TRS Senior Leader, K Keshava Rao’s daughter, Vijaya Lakshmi is the front runner for the Mayor post. But the hopes of becoming second female mayor to Hyderabad hit a roadblock, after questions were raised on her citizenship.

Vijayalakshmi was an American citizen till 2004 before she came to India after her 26-year stay in the USA. She reportedly gave up her American citizenship and obtained Indian citizenship in December 2009.

According to the law, a person, who was originally an Indian citizen and became a foreign citizen, must stay in India at least for five years before applying for the citizenship again. Her opponents say she do not fit in but Vijaya Lakshmi argues other wise. TRS sources themselves admit that there are some legal implications that may arise due to her candidature.
