Sindhu Should the Brand Ambassador, Not Sania?

PV Sindhu has brought back India’s pride in Badminton with her silver medal in the Rio Olympics this year. With Sindhu’s recent win, it was only a matter of time before the credibility of keeping Sania Mirza as a brand ambassador of the state was questioned on social media.

Sania Mirza has been at the first position internationally in the women’s doubles for quite a while and with her tennis dream beginning in Hyderabad where she spent most of her childhood, Mirza was anointed as the state’s brand ambassador in 2014. However, ever since Sania married Pakistani cricketer Shoib Malik, most of India believes she’s Pak’s daughter-in-law instead of being India’s daughter.

Moreover, Sania, who grew up in Hyderabad but wasn’t born there, is not considered to actually belong to Telangana. With these points in mind, the Twitterati now wants Sindhu to represent Telangana instead of Sania.
