Smart Cities – Only hype -No funds?

Marking its first anniversary in Power, NDA government announced big plans of developing 100 smart cities in the country. However the center is yet to formulate any rules or plans for developing the smart cities. In fact, the center is yet to frame the definition of smart city.

The Center had allocated 6273.77 Crores in 2014-15 and 2000 Crore in 2015-16 for this scheme but no funds were sanctioned or released so far as the scheme is at the formulation stage.

The center may announce the guidelines for a smart city and the list of selected cities in the coming week. While this is the scenario at the center, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh people are fighting to get maximum number of cities to be placed in this list.
