Social Networking can blind you!

A study by BITS-Pilani over the popular Social Networking sites revealed that the misinformation spread deliberately on social networking which cause lot of damage. The study said majority believe that the information shared on social networking sites to be authentic and in the case of some intended malicious campaigns, people take the information seriously and often have a strong impact on their behavior.

The study also said that this is being used by individuals/organizations to damage the reputation of others by spreading misinformation very easily. These campaign go to the extent of damaging the business prospects of some of the big companies. The researchers have given an example of how people of a country recently mass migrated to other place believing the rumors of spreading swine flu at their place.
