State Government Has No Locus Standi on Polavaram Contracts?

Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) which is constituted by the Union Jal Shakti ministry that oversees Polavaram irrigation project recently submitted a report on the Project progress after YS Jagan Mohan Reddy assumed Power. The Ministry is expected to take a decision over the Project after reviewing the Report.

YSR Congress government had decided to terminate and re-tender the Polavaram irrigation and hydel power plant works being executed by Navayuga Engineering, claiming that the expert committee had found violations in awarding the works to the Hyderabad-based infrastructure firm.

But then, according to the report of PPA, Polavaram project which holds national project status doesn’t come under the scope of the expert committee appointed by the State Government. The Report means that the State Government will have no locus stand on canceling the existing contracts and calling for the re-tenders.

This will come as a shock to Jagan Mohan Reddy Government which is adamant to show Navayuga the door out of the Project.
