Supreme Court Hearing on AP Municipal Elections
The Supreme Court’s hearing on the Andhra Pradesh municipal elections could change the fate of disputed seats and unanimous victories. The YSRCP has alleged that its candidates were prevented from filing nominations in 19 municipalities.
On October 21, the court directed the State Election Commission to examine complaints and verify supporting evidence. It also asked the commission to consider extending the nomination deadline wherever obstruction was established.
The YSRCP claims its candidates were not given another opportunity to file nominations in the disputed municipalities. The Election Commission and the state government are expected to submit reports on the implementation of the court’s directions.
Meanwhile, polling originally scheduled for October 28 has been postponed to November 1.
The key question is whether the Supreme Court will order further changes to the nomination process or allow the existing decisions to stand. Tuesday’s hearing could prove crucial for candidates awaiting clarity on their electoral prospects.
