Surrogacy ban hits Hyderabad hard

Hyderabad is always a global destination for surrogacy as most foreign couples opt for the city to get mothers due to its competitive pricing, strong air connectivity and high-quality healthcare facilities. Couple of days ago, the central government decided to ban foreign couples from opting for ‘desi’ surrogate mothers.

This had hit the stakeholders high who are dependent on foreign couples to make a living. Several infertility clinics, hotels housing the foreign couples and poor mothers who make money by carrying their babies are in now dilemma regarding their future.

The city gets a prominent income in the name of Medical tourism and good share of it from foreign couples coming from surrogacy. However the government already clarified that it sees this as a business and will not allow business with humans.
