Swachh Hyd digs big hole in GHMC pocket

Swachh Hyderabad Program taken up by the Telangana government had shown no positive results on ground in improving the cleanliness of the city, but it burnt a hole in the city’s civic body’s pocket. Chief Minister, Governor, Ministers and MLAs have participated in this program in May and did so much of hungama.

GHMC had to spend a whopping 8 Crore on the arrangements itself to please the government bosses. A convention hall was booked for 3 days and it costed 1.8 Crore for GHMC. Vehicles arranged for the program incurred a bill of 5.8 Crore while the dais used by the Chief Minister was beautified with 50 Lakh.

Having done so much, among the 476 Class 1 cities nationwide in Swachh Bharat initiative, with a population of one lakh and above, Secunderabad was ranked at 191 and Hyderabad, 275 – a matter of big shame to the state government and as well as the GHMC.
