It is said that the MSME and commercial sector had witnessed about 40-45 percent of production getting lowered. This segment could not afford to run their unit on generators and have cut down their production capabilities.
The usage of alternate power sources has increased the per unit cost of power from Rs 6 to Rs 16 making it unfeasible for a lot of businesses. Even popular commercial establishments like big shopping malls are suffering the same problem and are closing down their business early in the nights during the Weekdays. The industrial sector expect the situation to be slightly better with the Kharif season coming to an end and the government will shift its prominence from agriculture to industries. As the government itself says the problem will continue for three more years, the industrial sector has been demanding interest-free loans for purchasing generators and a 60 per cent subsidy on diesel to cope with the problem lest there should be an industrial emergency in the state very soon.
