Telangana and Maharashtra tops in Farmers’ Suicides!

Few days ago Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal had complained that Telangana government is not reaching out to the Center as much as it needed. Now there is a similar complaint by Union Agriculture Minister, Radha Mohan. The Minister had clarified that neither Telangana Chief Minister nor the agricultural minister of the state had reached him regarding the suicides of farmers in the state. The minister clarified that he himself met them when he went to Hyderabad on a private program but they did not bring any issue of such to his notice.

The minister had told the media that suicides of farmers are highest in Maharashtra and Telangana. However he clarified that Center will have to send teams to ground level to study the reasons behind the suicides and offer help only if the state government sends the Center a proper report. But Union Agriculture Ministry did not receive any such report from the state government. On the other side, there are allegations that nearly 300 farmers committed suicide since KCR government took oath where as the government tries to undermine the issue by reporting less numbers.
