‘T’ alone has Power dues of 1600 Crore!

The Power Crisis ridden Telangana state is spending a bomb to manage the power supply of the state. Besides power supply to people, government uses power for its departments and the bills are pending to the discoms.It is said that the government owned 1600 Crore to the two discoms of the region and the bills are pending as the government expressed their inability to pay such a big amount that cannot be adjusted before the end of a financial year.

Panchayat raj and rural development ministry tops the defaulters list with Rs 885 crore followed by department of municipal administration at Rs 153 crore. Irrigation department (200 Crore), Metro water and sewerage board, GHMC also owed big amounts to the discoms!

Besides these the discoms are handling subsidy of nearly 2950 crore in agriculture sector which was 2687 crore last financial year. The Tariff subsidy is projected to grow 15% annually due to increase in agricultural and domestic connections. It is said that government is gearing up to increase the power prices to battle this growing expenditures.
