HC Relief For KCR, Harish Rao In Kaleshwaram Case

The Telangana High Court has given relief to former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and former minister T. Harish Rao in the Kaleshwaram project inquiry case, putting a pause on action linked to the probe.

The case relates to petitions challenging the Justice P.C. Ghosh Commission, which was set up to investigate alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project.

After hearing the matter in detail, the High Court observed that the commission did not follow proper procedure while conducting the inquiry. Based on this, the court directed that no action should be taken relying on the commission’s report.

The commission was formed through a government order issued on March 14, 2024. This order was challenged by KCR, Harish Rao, and senior IAS officers Smita Sabharwal and S.K. Joshi, who raised concerns over the way the inquiry was conducted.

A bench led by Chief Justice Apares Kumar Singh, along with Justice G.M. Mohiuddin, examined the case before delivering the verdict.

Along with KCR and Harish Rao, the court also extended relief to IAS officers Smita Sabharwal and S.K. Joshi.

The ruling is significant as it questions the validity of the inquiry process itself. With the court stopping action based on the commission’s findings, the Kaleshwaram case now takes a different turn, at least for the time being.
