HC Orders Traffic Police: No Force For Challans

In a move that has brought relief to many citizens, the Telangana High Court has ordered traffic police not to stop motorists on the road and force them to pay pending challans.

The court clarified that citizens can choose to pay pending challans at their convenience. If the police intend to take action, they must follow due legal process, including issuing notices or presenting the individual before a court.

The High Court also made it clear that coercive measures are not permitted. Snatching vehicle keys or using force over unpaid challans has been strictly prohibited.

A large section of citizens has welcomed the ruling, especially those who are occasional traffic violators. Many feel the order protects motorists from harassment during routine travel.

However, some believe the decision could reduce fear among habitual violators. They worry that a few people may misuse the leniency shown by the court.

Traffic conditions in Hyderabad are often considered unruly compared to other cities, with frequent violations of basic traffic rules. The ruling has sparked debate on its long-term impact.

Social experts feel the decision could reduce unnecessary vehicle stoppages by traffic police. They believe it may encourage a more systematic and disciplined approach to handling traffic offenders through legal channels.
