Congress Springs A Surprise in MLC Nominations

The suspense surrounding the Telangana local body elections has finally been resolved. The Telangana Cabinet has announced that elections will take place in September and has sent an official letter to the Election Commission.

The Cabinet, led by CM Revanth Reddy, made several important decisions. Notably, they decided to lift the reservation limit for local body elections, a move that could reshape the election process.

In a surprising turn, the Cabinet nominated Kodandaram and Mohammad Azharuddin as MLCs under the Governor’s quota. A letter has been sent to the Governor requesting their appointment. Kodandaram, who previously served as an MLC for a year, had his nomination disqualified by the Supreme Court following a petition by BRS. However, CM Revanth Reddy has re-nominated him, showing his commitment to the decision.

The bigger surprise, however, is the selection of Mohammad Azharuddin. Azharuddin had earlier wanted to contest the Jubilee Hills seat but lost in the past. With the Congress party not keen on fielding him, nominating him as an MLC will help ease tensions and keep him on Revanth Reddy’s side.

Now, the final decisions are in the hands of the Election Commission and the Governor.
