Telangana’s Cab Tracking Helpline turns a hoax!

The last week the news of Telangana Police starting a dedicated helpline ‘9969777888’ for tracking cabs of women. The news spread like a wildfire on social networking sites requesting women to sms vehicle number to 9969777888 before boarding a taxi or auto.

Several women took serious note of it and even used it. However the entire thing turned to be a hoax as it is the helpline of Mumbai Police but not of Telangana State. We contacted Hyderabad Police regarding this helpline they have said that Telangana is yet to take up such initiative.

We are also told that the 181 helpline for women and some other mobile apps for the safety of women have been in talks and are yet to roll out. The Police have promised to advertise such plans in a big way when materialized and urged public not to believe hoax messages until then.
