Telugu People – Most God Fearing in India

2011 Census has some interesting figures about atheists in the country as only 33,304 Indians declared that they have no belief in god. This is just 0.002 percent of total population in the country. What is more surprising from the figures is that rural India had more atheists than urban areas.

Going deep into the numbers, Erstwhile Andhra Pradesh seems to be most god fearing people in the country. Out of the combined population of 8.45 crore people, just 256 people considered themselves as atheists. Following AP and Telangana is Karnataka with 112 atheists. Kerala has the highest number of atheists in the South at a total of 4,896.

Two states – Meghalaya and Maharashtra have more than half of the atheists in the country with 9,089 in Meghalaya and 9,652 atheists in Maharashtra. The number of atheists in India may be lower than that of the percentage of atheists in the World. In 2004, the United States Central Intelligence Agency’s World Factbook noted that just 2.4 percent of the world’s population was atheist.
