The High Court of Telangana delivered a crucial order in the cases filed against MLAs who defected from BRS to Congress in the recent past.
The High Court instructed the Assembly speaker to make a decision regarding these MLAs within four weeks. If not, the High Court stated that it would take up the case suo motu and proceed with the investigation.
After Congress won the Assembly Elections in Telangana, several BRS MLAs began joining the ruling party. A total of 10 BRS MLAs defected to Congress after the elections.
BRS leaders accused Congress of illegally luring their MLAs and filed multiple petitions in the High Court. They requested the court to disqualify the defected MLAs and alleged that despite complaints, the speaker had not taken any action against them.
BRS MLAs Padi Kaushik Reddy and Vivekananda Goud filed cases against defected MLAs like Danam Nagender, Kadiyam Srihari, and Tellam Venkat Rao, requesting the court to disqualify them.
Even BJP MLA Maheshwara Reddy filed a case against Danam Nagender, seeking his disqualification.
The High Court collectively heard all these cases earlier today. The petitioners argued that the speaker was not following the Supreme Court’s orders and had not taken action against the defected MLAs.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court ordered the speaker to make a decision within four weeks.
