In what can be a major discomfort for commuters, the TGSRTC has called for an indefinite strike from May 7. The buses will stop plying from midnight May 6.
Safeguarding RTC and completing the merger are the main agenda points behind the strike. On July 31, 2023, the then BRS Telangana government decided to merge TSRTC with the government. It also proposed to rename TSRTC as TGSRTC to avoid confusion with Tamil Nadu State Express Transport Corporation.
In May 2024, after the Congress came to power, TS was replaced by TG and it is now known as TGSRTC. The JAC of RTC put across 21 demands and pressed for merger with state government for job security.
The JAC threatened to go strike on April 10, 2025, as the government did not respond to their demands. The primary demands of JAC include merger of RTC with state government, payment of two pay revision commission’s installments along with arrears dating back to 2021 and overdue salaries.
They also raised objections to the privatization of depots in the guise of introducing electric buses.
Hence, the JAC called for a state-wide strike from May 7. They submitted the strike notice to Labour Commissioner and Corporation’s managing director VC Sajjanar at Bus Bhavan.
