The Calculation Behind Pawan Kalyan’s Alliance with BSP

Janasena President Pawan Kalyan surprised everyone by meeting Bahujan Samajwadi Party President Mayawati the other day and announced an alliance with the party in both the Telugu States. Pawan Kalyan went on to say that he is looking forward to seeing Mayawati as the country’s Prime Minister one day.

Behind this move of Pawan Kalyan, there is a calculation, Political experts say. There are 22 constituencies in Godavari Districts dominated by SC and Kapu Voters. BSP has a traditional vote bank ranging from 3000 to 7000 votes in these constituencies. Pawan Kalyan is looking at those votes.

According to the data of 2009 elections, Praja Rajyam Party lost many seats in these 22 segments with a margin of 1000 to 8000 Votes. In such a scenario, BSP votes can come handy, Pawan Kalyan opines. All is well, but the fact is Praja Rajyam Party is much stronger than what Janasena is today.

The key for Janasena is to put up a performance similar to that of PRP’s in 2009. Moreover, there are some strong leaders from Praja Rajyam back then contesting in Godavari districts which is not the case now. Kapu Community is not polarized as much as then. Let us see what is in store for Pawan Kalyan.
