Supreme Court discusses pending traffic challans
It is already known that traffic challans have been one of the most challenging financial burden is placed on the common public by the author authorities. Whenever there is a traffic violation, the police immediately click a picture and send a challan to the mobile number for recovery.
This is particularly prevalent in big cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, and others where the common public is often under the radar.
Now it is being established that there are more than ₹20,000 crore in pending dues regarding the traffic challan. Subsequently, this matter has invited the attention of the Supreme Court and they made a very interesting comment.
The Supreme Court pointed out that it is perhaps responsibility of the traffic department to add these pending traffic challan amounts to the power supply bills if the person doesn’t clear them on time.
The Supreme Court commented that people will have to pay electricity bills every month without fail or else they would be losing power supply, so adding pending traffic challans to it would be sufficient.
But this comment from the apex court has immediately invited criticism on social media as people are commenting that it is extremely unethical to add pending traffic challans to power bills.
They are pointing out that there are more important things like bad roads, worse drainage systems and municipality discrepancies which require the court’s attention more than traffic challans.
