Tragic: ‘Empty Gun’ Lands Telangana Youth In U.S. Jail

Yesterday we reported how, in a rather unfortunate incident, Mahankali Akhil Sai, 25, was shot dead in Montogomery City in Alabama State, US.

Recent reports suggest that he was a native of Madhira town in Khammam district, and he had gone to the US last December to pursue his MS at Auburn University in Montogomery.

He was working at a nearby gas station. Though he was immediately rushed to the hospital, he was immediately declared dead. Meanwhile, another Telugu guy, Raviteja Goli, has been charged with manslaughter and was taken to a Montgomery county detention facility.

There are some reports floating around that say that the accused, Ravi Goli, who was working as a security guard (part-time in all likelihood) at the petrol pump, told Mahankali that it was empty, though there was one bullet left in the cartridge. For his part, Ravi thought the gun was empty, and the incident happened when Mahankali was checking out the gun. Proofs have been submitted to the authorities.

Mostly, Ravi is likely to be charged with involuntary manslaughter, which is accidentally firing a gun and killing someone. Meanwhile, Mahankali’s parents Umashanker and his wife, Madhavi, have requested the Indian government and Telangana governments to help them in bringing the body to Khammam.
