TTD Spared Partially from GST

Andhra Pradesh Government’s attempts to exempt Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) was successful to some extent. After big pressure from the state, Center had agreed to exempt Laddu Prasadam, Thalaneelalu (Hair Offering) and Accommodation (Up to 1000 Rupees) from GST.

Accommodation above 1000 Rupees will attract GST but then such rooms are only 5% of the total rooms in Tirumala. Earlier they said GST effect will be to the tune of 77.5 Crores per year to TTD. More than the financial obligation, it is a matter of religious sentiment.

The state government also announced that it will see if it can exempt TTD from GST completely using the provisions it has in the act but that will only mean more burden to the state which is already burdened by a deficit budget.
