Two Bomb Threats in Vijayawada In a Day

The day started off with a bomb threat in the financial hub of Andhra Pradesh, Vijayawada. There was a bomb threat to the shops on the busy Besant Road.

An unidentified person called the Police Control Room and said that a bomb was planted in Besant Road and that it would be blasted on Saturday.

The bomb detection squad immediately rushed to the area along with sniffer dogs. Push carts, shops, canals were checked with metal detectors.

Being a busy area, the shop owners shut their shops following the threat.

However, the drama didn’t stop there. Another bomb threat call was made to the Vijayawada railway station.

Once again the railway police along with bomb detection squad scanned the entire area clean and found nothing. The technical team traced the prank call.

With the recent terror attack in Pahalgam fresh in the minds of people and the arrest of two youth in Vijayanagaram trying to make home-made bombs, there is a sense of underlying fear among people.

Given the times, such threats come as wake up calls to strengthen security measures, especially in crowded places in tier-2 and even tier-3 cities.
