Unexpected Tension Over Volunteers In YSRCP

Andhra Pradesh High Court made some serious comments on the Volunteers system. “What is the legality of Volunteers? How they can decide beneficiaries of schemes?,” the court questioned.

A few beneficiaries of Garapaadu village of Guntur district YSR approached the court saying that they are removed from the beneficiaries list of YSR Cheyootha for Political reasons.

They brought to the notice of the court that Panchayat Secretaries used to decide beneficiaries earlier and now Volunteers are doing that.

“Why are volunteers being used to decide beneficiaries when there Is Government machinery. They do not even have service rules. How are they involved?,” the court said.

The Special Secretary of Village and Ward volunteers and Secretariat staff filed a counter saying that volunteers have no role in deciding the beneficiaries. On the contrary, Society for Eradication of Rural Poverty (SERP) commissioner filed a counter saying that they play a role.

The court summoned the commissioner to attend before it on 28th and explain.

High Court has been making negative comments on Volunteers for the last few days. They are the lifeline of YSR Congress in coming to power in 2024 as they are all political appointments. So the Government will be hoping there will be no adverse judgement on Volunteers just before the elections.
