Vijayawada Metro Rail Report Card Ready

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) which is entrusted the job of preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of Vijaywada Metro is likely to submit it by the end of the March. It is reliably learnt that the project will cost 7,500 crore in the first phase at nearly Rs. 288 crore per km according to project estimates.

The project design will be for a 26-km stretch covering both Bandar and Eluru Roads, connecting key junctions and with 21 intermediate stations. In the second phase, the Metro project will be extended to Thullur, the proposed Capital of Andhra Pradesh.

DMRC is also planning s suburban transportation facility to link Vijayawada, Guntur and Tenali by high speed trains. The new facility will be integrated with metro corridors proposed in the city and the capital region. The proposed high speed rail was “cost effective” when compared to the metro rail. It will cost Rs. 8 crore to Rs. 10 crore per km to set up against 288 Crore per Km for Metro Rail.
