Vijayawada Metro Rail Runs into a Deadlock

The proposed Metro Project in Vijayawada ran into a deadlock. Central Government is keen on giving permissions to this project only after it rolls out a new policy for the Metro Projects. In such case, the project may not materialize by 2019.

CM Chandrababu Naidu is keen on starting the project as soon as possible and so is trying to get the permissions under Old Policy. The Project will cost a whopping 6000 Crore. The State and Central Governments will pool in 20% of the funds.

The Population of Vijayawada is only 11.5 Lakhs while the project will be accorded only to a population of 15 Lakhs, according to the old policy. But then the state government is keen on this project keeping in the view of the population that will be migrating to Amaravati in the coming years.
